About Us
OUR MISSION
In response to Christ's love and example, we serve children and families by providing healing and hope.
OUR HISTORY
Cumberland Presbyterian Children's Home has a proud history of offering healing and hope to vulnerable children, teens and families.
1904
Miss Victoria Jackson bequeathed her home in Bowling Green, Kentucky to be a home for widows and orphans. This home became the first site of the Cumberland Presbyterian Children's Home.
1932
The decision was made to move the Children's Home to Denton, Texas. Six children arrived from Kentucky to take up residence.
1939
Cumberland moved to the corner of Bernard and Greenlee Streets after building the Old Main building.
The next 94 years
CPCH specialized solely in caring for children and teens in residential care. Yet, gradually the organization was determined to reduce the need for residential care services by greater emphasis on preserving families.
1999
The Board of Trustees voted to expand our mission to begin working with families as well as children. The Single Parent Family ministry begins.
2003
The Building Together Capital Campaign raised just over $6 million to expand programming and increase the campus' capacity to fulfill the mission.
2004
The Parr Family Resource Building was completed and construction on the Single Parent Family duplexes was begun.
2007
Cumberland began the Family Services program, which offers to the community parenting and pre-marital education, as well as individual, marital and family counseling on a sliding scale fee. Through counseling and classes, Cumberland has broadened its ability to help children and families who are not living on campus.
2011
The Capital Campaign construction was completed.
2012
Cumberland Family Services Counseling Center officially opens. The Emergency Shelter for Children opens.
CPCH is one agency with interrelated services:
